Snow Ice Cream

We sure did get our fill of snow around here these past couple of days. Ethan finally made it back to school today, though I was secretly hoping for one more Snow Day home with him. We had a great couple of days  but it's nice to get back in our usual routine.

Yesterday we decided to make some Snow Ice Cream! Growing up in North Dakota meant plenty of winters trying to entrain ourselves with snow related things. I can particularity remember one winter where we turned snow into ice cream at home, I figured the kids would love this snow eating experience. Once again its quick to whip together and I'm sure you have all of the ingredients on hand. Add some sprinkles or chocolate sauce on top to make it a extra special treat, it really does taste like Vanilla ice cream!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 cups clean snow
  • optional (but strongly suggested) topping: sprinkles!!!
In a large bowl, whisk milk, sugar, vanilla and salt together until combined. Go scoop up some fresh (clean!) snow, and immediately stir it into the milk mixture until you reach your desired consistency. Top with sprinkles or other ice cream toppings if desired. The ice cream should be fluffy and not runny. Serve immediately, it does melt fast!
